Over 12.6 lakh new beneficiaries added across PMJDY, PMSBY, PMJJBY and APY; CM lauds district administrations for expanding coverage, awards top-performing districts

Srinagar, Jan 28 (KNO): The districts of Jammu, Pulwama and Baramulla have emerged as top performers in major financial inclusion and social security schemes being implemented by the Jammu and Kashmir Government, showing notable progress in expanding citizen coverage and financial access during the current financial year. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the Chief Minister has commended the efforts of the district administrations for significant improvement in the implementation of flagship schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) during 2025–26. As per the details available with the KNO, under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, aimed at promoting universal access to banking facilities, 1,26,803 new accounts were opened in the first three quarters of the fiscal. “With this, the total number of PMJDY accounts in Jammu and Kashmir increased from 23,66,953 as of March 31, 2025, to 24,93,756 as of December 31, 2025. The top-performing districts under this scheme were Jammu, Samba and Reasi,” the officials said. They said under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), which provides accidental insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh at a nominal premium of Rs 20 per year, 5,42,675 additional individuals were enrolled. “This pushed the total number of subscribers from 23,56,858 in March 2025 to 29,12,830 in December 2025. Pulwama district recorded the highest coverage, followed by Samba and Jammu,” they added. Similarly, under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), providing life insurance cover of rupees 2 lakh on an annual premium of rupees 436, the total number of subscribers rose from 9,66,887 in March 2025 to 11,87,547 by December 2025, registering an addition of 2,20,660 new beneficiaries. “Baramulla achieved the best results, followed by Jammu and Ganderbal,” officials said. Under the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), which offers a fixed monthly pension after 60 years of age to citizens aged 18–40 years not covered under any other pension scheme, 40,582 new subscribers were enrolled, taking the total from 2,48,020 to 2,88,602 in the same period. “Jammu district topped the list, followed by Samba and Pulwama,” they said. Officials said that the Digital Life Certificate (Jeevan Praman) campaign also recorded remarkable progress, with digital certifications rising from 4,000 to 1,11,511 during 2025–26. Of the 2.49 lakh pensioners in J&K, 2.37 lakh have completed life certification, and 1.16 lakh (49%) opted for digital submission. “Rajouri, Kulgam and Udhampur were identified as the best-performing districts under this campaign,” they added. The Chief Minister also appreciated the coordinated efforts of Deputy Commissioners, banking institutions and field-level functionaries for ensuring that benefits reach people in a seamless and transparent manner. Officials said the top three performing districts under each scheme have been awarded Certificates of Appreciation by the Chief Minister for their outstanding work—(KNO)
